Free mutli-sport Friday night project in Barrhead Through CashBack for Communities, East Renfrewshire Council, BADMINTONscotland and Scottish Squash and Racketball Ltd have teamed up with the mobile pitches to offer young people in Barrhead a Free Friday Night project at Barrhead Sports Centre. Activity is open to all young people aged 10 – 19 and equipment and coaching is provided. This new venture starts this Friday 28th October 6 – 9pm. Councillor Mary Montague, convenor for community services explains "Our Sports Development and Active Schools are delighted to be able to add to our extensive provision of sport and physical activity, free badminton and squash activity in Barrhead Sports Centre. Such opportunities allow our young people to have fun, participate and learn new skills and develop self confidence in Sport and in Life." Maggie Lawrie, Scottish Squash and Racketball Ltd's Racketball Manager commented "We are delighted to be starting CashBack funded Racketball session in Barrhead, and especially happy to be teaming up with Barrhead Sports Centre, Sports Development, Community Safety and Badminton Scotland to offer the local youths a truly multi-sport session. Racketball is the UK's fastest growing racquet sport; we can't wait to get young people in Barrhead bashing a ball off a wall". Kirsty Wilmington, CashBack Co-ordinator with BADMINTONscotland said: "We have been running diversionary sessions at the sports centre on a Tuesday evening and are delighted to be working with other sports to offer young people a choice of activity every Friday night from 6 – 9pm now. This will be especially good coming into winter; if you're looking for something to do come along and get involved. " Scottish Government Minister for Commonwealth Games and Sport, Shona Robison said: "The programme of activity to be undertaken by BADMINTONscotland, Scottish Squash and Racketball Ltd and the East Renfrewshire Council, thanks to CashBack for Communities funding, is one which will bring significant benefits to young people. "CashBack not only gives Scotland's young people hope, purpose and confidence but through sporting programmes like badminton, CashBack contributes to the health and well-being of young people and makes a positive impact by offering our young people opportunities to be active in a range of activities. By taking funds from crime and investing it back into our communities we are making them better places in which to live and helping to ensure our young people have positive opportunities and lead longer, healthier lives."
