The arrival of racquetball

Scottish Squash and Racquetball Ltd (SSRL) in association with the Scottish Government's CashBack for Communities Programme are soon to roll out Scotland's newest sport, Racquetball, in Forfar.

The arrival of Scotland's fastest growing racket sport will take place in conjunction with The Friday Night Project which started at Lochside Leisure Centre last Friday.

Maggie Lawrie, Scottish Squash and Racketball Ltd's Racketball Manager said: "We are delighted to be starting CashBack funded Racketball sessions in Forfar and especially happy to be teaming up with Forfar and Area Partnership and Tayside Fire and Rescue to deliver them alongside the Friday Night Project.

"The CashBack funding is allowing us to offer the local youths a truly multi-activity session. Raquetball is the UK's fastest growing racquet sport and we can't wait to get young people in Forfar bashing a ball off a wall".

Jeanette Gaul, Forfar and Area Partnership, said: "The project is aimed at youngsters who are looking for something to do on a Friday night.

"There will be a variety of activities which includes inflatables, use of the exercise machines, dance routines, fire smoke crawling gallery as well as raquetball.

"It is hoped that there will be something for everyone".

Shona Robison, Scottish Government Minister for Commonwealth Games and Sport, said: "The programme of activity to be undertaken by Scottish Squash and Racquetball Ltd, thanks to CashBack for Communities funding, is one which will bring significant benefits to young people".

"By taking funds from crime and investing bad money for good purposes to build better, safer, healthier communities, improving facilities, running projects that simply would not have existed otherwise and giving our young people the opportunities for something positive, purposeful and constructive to do we are also helping them lead longer healthier lives."
